Reconstructive surgery

Reconstructive surgery is about restoring how you look, how you move and how you feel, so you can get back to your life.

The person as well as the problem

Different conditions require different assessments, and sometimes input from more than one specialty. Reconstruction can be part of recovery after injury, illness or surgery, and it often depends on careful wound care along the way.

Dr Christine has a particular interest in breast and reconstructive surgery. Her work in reconstruction sits alongside her continuing microsurgical learning and her involvement in wound care education in Kenya.

How an assessment works

  • You explain your concerns and what you hope care might help with.
  • The surgeon assesses the area and your general health, with your consent.
  • Options are explained plainly, including their limits, risks and recovery.
  • Where another specialist is better placed to help, referral is discussed with you.

Every situation is different

Whether you are recovering from an injury, a burn, illness or earlier surgery, your care starts with a proper conversation about you. Bring your questions and your worries, and you will get a clear, honest picture of what might help.
